Michelle Urban
Artistic Director, Contemporary Instructor & Choreographer
Michelle Urban was born in Stockton, California and raised in El Paso, TX and Cd. Juarez Chihuahua. She received her BA in Dance Education at the University of Texas at El Paso. She has been teaching dance in contemporary, ballet, and jazz in multiple dance studios since 2009. She has also been teaching dance in public education since 2011. She has choreographed and produced dance productions for many local dance companies, studios and local businesses. Michelle specializes in teaching choreography, partnering, improvisation, release technique and adaptive dance for children with challenges. Her choreography has received awards at various local, regional and national levels to include top place awards at YAGP and National Society of Arts and Letters. Michelle has presented for the Texas Dance Education Association, Hispanic Heritage Community and Women’s Club of El Paso, and organized summer dance programs for the Child Crisis Center in El Paso. She is an educator who is highly involved in the arts in the public-school systems in El Paso and prides herself in exposing all dancers to higher education in the arts. Michelle is currently director of Urban Movement Dance Company, Emeralds Director at Montwood High School, Director of S.H.I.N.E. (an adaptive dance team at Montwood High School), one of the artistic advisors for French Dip Hip Hop Team and Co-Owner and Founder of Urban Movement Dance Academy and The Urban Institute of Dance and Performing Arts non-profit organization.
